Lingtai suona, a traditional ensemble centered on the Chinese double-reed instrument suona, boasts a long history and distinctive local characteristics.

Led by the resonant sound of the suona and coordinated by drum rhythms, the music is known for its clear melodic structure and rhythmic vitality. Though its melodies and rhythmic patterns are relatively simple, they possess a unique rustic charm and understated elegance.

Traditionally, Lingtai suona was performed at weddings, funerals, temple fairs and festive celebrations. Over the generations, musicians have preserved a repertoire of more than 300 traditional tunes, each with its own musical character. Different pieces are selected for different occasions.
