Gansu Medical College is located in Pingliang, Gansu province, hometown of Huangfu Mi — a renowned medical scholar acknowledged as the founding father of acupuncture.

The college covers an area of 945 mu (630,000 square meters), with a total building area of 231,900 square meters. It recruits students from 21 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions across China and has roughly 10,000 full-time undergraduate students now on campus. The college employs a workforce of over 1,900 teachers, medical practitioners and administrative personnel.

Gansu Medical College maintains an educational partnership with Tianjin Medical University. It also engages in academic exchanges with overseas universities and research institutes, including Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University (Russia), Srinakharinwirot University (Thailand), and Tribhuvan University (Nepal).

Founded over 60 years ago, the college has cultivated more than 80,000 graduates. Most alumni are now working on the frontlines of primary medical and healthcare services throughout the country.
